Spanish Mission

Following the devastating Hawke's Bay earthquake in 1931, a stunning new townscape was created embracing the revolutionary new architectural styles popular at the time. Examples of Art Deco, Stripped Classical and Spanish Mission architecture have been preserved throughout the city and a leisurely stroll down Russell St in Hastings will reveal all three styles standing proudly side by side.

Hastings adopted the brand name Spanish Mission to showcase their unique architectural heritage and visitors can take a self guided walk or personal guided tour to view some stunning 1920's architecture. Contact the Hastings visitor i-site for more information.

Guided Tours run from October to April and depart from the Hastings i-site Visitor Centre every Saturday at 11am or by arrangement.  To book phone 0800 HASTINGS (427 846)
