Lucinda brings Strategic Marketing expertise to the team, specialising in campaigns, corporate communications and project management & is excited to combine her passion for marketing with support for local businesses.

EMMA SEY • Marketing Manager

With a varied management background in digital and print marketing, design, events, sponsorship and customer service, Emma brings an innovative but analytical approach, thriving when working in cross-functional roles where she gets to wear multiple hats. She is excited to share her knowledge with the Association & the business members it supports. Emma is also a volunteer with FENZ (Fire and Emergency New Zealand).

2023/2024 BOARD MEMBERS

Board Members are elected once a year and meet regularly to oversee the Hastings City Business Association activity and strategies.

 

CRAIG RIDDIFORD • BWR Accounting

With 20+ years accounting experience, Craig brings a strong financial skill set to the board.  Through his position at BWR, Craig is involved in advising clients on governance issues and has been involved in governance reviews both as a trustee and advisor.  As a business owner himself and advisor to other business owners in Hastings, he has a good understanding of the issues affecting the stakeholders of Hastings City Business Association being the local businesses. Craig is extremely passionate about Hastings City and want to utilise his skillset to see local businesses thrive.

ANGUS THOMSON • Thomsons Suits

As a third-generation owner of a well-known and established family business, Thomson's Suits, Angus brings a wealth of experience not only in business ownership and management but also in frontline retails, sales and customer service. Angus looks forward to being able to help the association and seeing the CBD thrive.

ROSS HILL-RENNIE • Tile Shed Ltd

An experienced business owner/operator with over 20+ years’ experience within a varied range of business environments, Ross brings experience from outside of Hastings district as well as knowledge and contacts from the building and construction industry.  Ross is well positioned to continue to contribute his ideas and lend knowledge from his experiences as a business owner.  He has also been a member of a group of SME owners that meet monthly in a board environment, focusing on business issues and owner accountability. Ross has a passion for business and a natural problem-solving ability and is active in the Hastings business community, centred around his new showroom on the corner of Eastbourne & Market Streets. Ross has owned The Tile Shed for 5.5 years and has several other business interests.

JOHN VAN DEN BERK • John’s Bakery & Cafe

John is a long standing business owner in Hastings, having been a retailer for 31 years. He has previously been on the Hastings City Business Association Board and is excited to return, to share his wealth of knowledge with his peers in the retail and hospitality industry. As a past overall winner of the Hastings City Business Awards, John knows how to run a successful and long-standing business and he is passionate about what happens in Hastings and how it affects the retailers.

LEAH BERNIE • Bramwell Bate

As an experienced lawyer, local business owner and mum to three Leah is excited to play a part in the development of the Hastings City business district. Leah’s firm, Bramwell Bate, is one of the longest standing firms in Hastings and she has seen first-hand the fantastic growth and development of the area for residents, visitors, and local businesses. Along with a law degree, Leah has a post grad diploma in regional and resource planning from Otago and practised in Australia and Gisborne before returning to her hometown of the Bay.  She has considerable experience in advising both commercial and corporate clients from Hastings and throughout the Bay.  The opportunity to be a part of the Hastings City Business Association and to work to promote the establishment of new business in the city centre, while also supporting and mentoring existing businesses, fits perfectly within Leah’s skills.

COUNCILLOR WENDY SCHOLLUM

Over the past 12 years of business ownership, Wendy has actively contributed to the Hastings community by hiring, upskilling and supporting local young people, mentoring other business owners and supporting the local school community. She has also sponsored a range of local charities and economic development groups that support the Hastings region's people and economy.

COUNCILLOR DAMON HARVEY

Damon Harvey is born and bred in Hastings. He has a background in media, marketing and public relations and is the current chairman of Sport Hawke’s Bay, a board member of Surfing New Zealand and co-chair of the Jarrod Cunningham Youth Sport Trust. Damon is proud to live in Hastings, listing his reasons for this being due to the diverse culture, great growing climate, vibrant CBD and the awesome amenities and facilities.
